National Conference (NC) on Thursday ridiculed the "childish, rhetorical and juvenile" statement issued by Hurriyat Conference (M) and JKLF saying the party doesn't require any certificates from "double-agents who have amassed millions worth in property and wealth riding on the back of unimaginable sacrifices rendered by the people of Kashmir". In a statement issued to , the NC spokesperson said, “Firstly, Ex-MLA Geelani should fight his own battles and not force rubber-stamp leaders to come out to defend his indefensible dealings and arrangements with PDP. Secondly, neither National Conference nor me as an individual require any certificates from double agents who have exploited the political issue and sentiment in Kashmir for amassing personal property worth crores in Srinagar, Delhi, Pakistan and Dubai – including residential and commercial assets." He said the "personal attacks" and "name-calling" is petulant and as juvenile as the form of "irresponsible, wayward and unaccountable leadership practiced by these gentlemen”.

The spokesperson reminded Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of his outburst against Geelani few years ago when he said ‘Who the hell is Geelani?’ after Geelani "for the hundredth time questioned Mirwaiz’s credibility and sincerity". “When Geelani questions the credibility of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at that time it is ‘Who the hell is Geelani?’ and when someone else tries to ask valid and justified questions of him, at that time, Geelani suddenly becomes a respected leader. I leave it for the conscience of Mirwaiz Sb to consider this contradiction and introspect. He aspires to be a leader and people expect better from him”, he said. The spokesperson said the party sought answers on "legitimate" questions from Ex-MLA (sic) Geelani and would continue to seek such answers on behalf of the people of Kashmir "who have been exploited and dismayed by their shady political and pecuniary dealings". "National Conference is a party of the people and represents their political aspirations and will never compromise with our mission," the NC spokesperson said, adding, "We are accountable to the people and will remain accountable to the people as we continue to fight for their political honour, identity and dignity."GNS
